Grats on the cruiser - I'm going to disagree with some of these fellows as is my tendency.
I was exactly where you are about a month ago on this character.
I would suggest the best ship for running L1's is a destroyer, honestly. They're nimble enough and sustainable enough and as a bonus with all those high slots in a catalyst you can fit a salvager and a tractor beam easily - salvage as you go. It really, really speeds up the process in mission that are - worlds collide excepted - too easy for you anyway.
When L2's become available, it's time for the Vexor. The only mission you won't be able to afk through is Human Cattle in the last few parts and possible 'Deadly Arrival' which is just a very unpleasant amount of fast dps. You can keep salvaging as you go here or better yet convert your catalyst into a dedicated salvager.
As much as I understand the people above saying you should train high skill levels before jumping into a battlecruiser, I have always disagreed and will continue to disagree. When you've got the cash to pay for it I recommend immediately upgrading to a Myrmidon. The difference between the raw stats on the Myrm and the Vex is frankly just enormous and the bonuses are to two things that have 0 size limitation - armor repping and drones. Considering the lack of a weapon bonus on the Myrm you can stick with a rack of 150 proto gauss for the level 3 missions and do just fine, and if you're a Soldier like my character you've already got the skills to start training Med turrets. There are a few L3's where you'll have to jump out with low skills, but by and large you'll handle them easily - I've been doing them in the same myrm I bought on day 16 of my character's life and the closest I've been to losing it was one very bad combination of alchohol, late hours, and afk'ing that saw me at 50% structure when I warped out.
In my opinion, your best bet from here:
1. Train salvaging to two or so, train for a tractor beam. 2. Keep learning skills going while you sleep until you've got them to four - or five, if you're feeling like a masochist. Four is fine. 3. Use money gained in Lvl 1-2 missions during this time to put a set of plus 3's in your head, then save the rest for your Myrm.
When you've got decent level 3's available to you and the cash for a myrmidon, buy it.
4. Start training two fields; your tank and your drones. Hull Upgrades and the Drones/Sentry Drone skills should be the majority of your training time, but remember to stop when you need to and pop out a few skills for the joy of actually getting to use something in the same play session. No fun = quick way to abandoning the game.
You should be able to use Light/Medium Scout II's, Hardener I's (II's are better ;)), Armor Rep II's, an Afterburner II, and probably be most of the way up the tree on Med Hybrids - then you can decide whether you want to hang around the L3's and keep your Myrmidon or move up to the serious drone space of a Domi.
I can understand people telling you to hang in low-tier ships for PvP, but in PvE - it's just not sensible. If I can spend a month casualty free running level 3 missions in a myrmidon so can anyone.
